The Pier

The Pier-

Taken in Berwick upon Tweed, this is a photograph of the lighthouse at the top end the pier. The Pier started construction in 1810 and was completed in 1821, with the purpose of being a breakwater for the mouth of the river Tweed and shielding the entrance from sea.

The lighthouse, designed by Joeseph Nelson, was constructed in 1826 offering a symbol of light upon arrival to Berwick from sea.
